Swingin' Time

Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire! 

I am heading to Vegas for a weekend with my 3 best college girlfriends.  We all met at different times in college but nearest I can figure we've collectively been friends since 1990.  We've stayed in touch, some years better than others, for 21 years.  That makes me happy. 

The last time we went to Vegas together we were -- young.  We stayed in an old hotel and did our best to spend small while visiting.  This time we are staying at a fancy hotel.  Actually, it sits on the land that was formerly occupied by the hotel from our first visit (the old hotel was imploded on national TV on New Year's Eve.)  That, my friends, is pure poetry! 

That last trip we went to see a show that I believe offered us BOGO tickets and has been playing on the strip for probably as long as there was the strip.  This time -- Cirque du Soleil! 

The last trip I remember we rode the bus.  (Boy is there a funny story about that! TeeeHeee!)  This time there is a monorail and we probably can swing a taxi or two.

Last time we ate all buffet (our metabolism allowed it and our wallets demanded it.)  This time, I bet we eat somewhere that has an actual menu. 

Last time we ran all over Vegas so we could see every casino and free show available for tourist.  This trip, we will float and sip drinks on the lazy river chatting about life and wild days gone by.  (OF COURSE there is a funny story about us walking all over Vegas  -- don't you wish you knew!) 

Last time we all checked our bags and needed way to much "stuff".  This time we will stuff our small carry-on and not worry if we forgot something.

So, you can read my little article here and say, "Big deal.. been to Vegas.  Been there done that"  but you just never know what new adventure you might find the next time you visit a place so never sell it short.  Travel is not about the destination as much as it is about the journey and the joy you find with the company you keep.
